Overcoming Analysis Paralysis – How to Stop Overthinking and Start Moving Forward

Jul 21, 2025

You know that feeling when you’ve got a big decision to make, and you end up going back and forth, researching, comparing, and second-guessing every option? Before you know it, hours—or even days—have passed, and you’re still stuck.

Yep, that’s analysis paralysis—when too many choices or too much information keeps you frozen in place. It’s like trying to choose a show on Netflix…for two hours…and then just going to bed. But when it comes to your business and your life goals, that kind of standstill is costly.

Here’s the good news: There’s a way out.

Step 1: Ask Yourself—Am I Stuck Because I Have Too Many Choices?

Sometimes, we overcomplicate things because we’re trying to weigh every possible option. Ask yourself, “Am I overwhelmed by too many choices?” If the answer is yes, it’s time to narrow it down.

Step 2: Limit Your Options

One of the easiest ways to get unstuck is to pick three of the most viable options and stop thinking about everything else. Write them down so you can see them clearly.

Now, set a timer for 10 minutes and commit to making a decision in that time frame. When you give yourself a deadline, it’s easier to move forward because you remove the endless loop of “what if?”

Step 3: Try a Pros and Cons List

If you’re still stuck, a classic pros and cons list can help you see things more clearly. Write down the benefits and drawbacks of each option. Sometimes seeing it in black and white is enough to make your decision obvious.

But here’s where I like to add in something a little extra...

Step 4: Ask for Guidance and Trust Your Gut

Before I make a final decision, I take a moment to ask for guidance—whether that’s through a short prayer, meditation, or just sitting quietly to clear my mind. It’s a way to get grounded and listen to that little voice inside that already knows what to do.

Because sometimes, it’s not about logic; it’s about intuition.

Step 5: Take the Smallest Action You Can Right Now

If you’re still feeling stuck, ask yourself: What is the smallest action I can take towards this goal right now?

It doesn’t have to be huge—it just has to be something.  Action creates momentum, and momentum creates clarity. Even if you end up changing course, you’re still learning, adjusting, and moving forward.

Step 6: Remember—You Can Always Change Course Later

Here’s the best part: You’re not locked into your choice. If you move forward and realize it’s not working, you can always pivot. But staying stuck guarantees that nothing changes.

Making progress isn’t always about perfect decisions—it’s about any decision that moves you one step closer.

So, the next time you’re stuck in that endless loop of overthinking, remember: Limit your choices, get quiet for a moment, make the decision, and just take the smallest step forward.

Movement creates clarity. Clarity creates progress. And progress gets you closer to your goals.
